Originally destined for a career in geology Richard fell into investment management accidentally after a summer placement. Developing a passion for the market and helping clients manage their assets, he spent ten years in the City.
In 1990 he opened Brewin Dolphin’s first branch office in Surrey and oversaw a twenty five fold increase in assets under management up to 2017, when pastures new beckoned. Within The Investment Boutique Richard is thrilled once more to be able to utilise his experience and talents at managing assets for his clients in an individually tailored strategy.
At home Richard is married with four children and when time permits he indulges his passion for performance cars and bikes, shoots and listens to the blues.
After gaining first-class honours in International Relations, Helena joined Brewin Dolphin in 2010, achieving the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification through the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Combining interpersonal skills, a natural empathy and intelligence Helena helped her small team to see assets grow from £90 million to over £250 million in seven years. Despite having reached assistant director level in short order, Helena realised that she preferred to control her own destiny and left to become the founder of The Investment Boutique in 2017.
In her spare time Helena loves to travel and enjoys eating out, which is offset by the odd exercise class.
Derek began his career in finance as a salesman for a life office but quickly realised that he would rather deal with clients directly and so retrained as an independent financial adviser. After working in a variety of roles at different firms he established Mackinlay Associates in 2012. With a reputation for straight talking and getting the job done, he has built a successful business reliant entirely on referrals.
He was welcomed into The Investment Boutique in 2018 where he provides Financial Planning services to complement the investment managers.
When his suit comes off, it is occasionally replaced with the red Venetian tunic, knee length breeches, and 12 ft pike of the Pikemen and Musketeers from the Honourable Artillery Company in the City. This causes much mirth from his wife and two daughters. When not in the seventeenth century he is an accomplished tennis player and keen cyclist.
